Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections selects GEO Reentry to open two new day reporting centers

Centers deliver reentry services

BOCA Raton, Fla. – The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections has selected GEO Reentry Services, a national leader in community-based correctional treatment programs, to open two new day reporting centers on Dec. 3 in Monroe and Thibodaux, Louisiana. These centers join three other GEO Reentry day reporting centers in Covington, Baton Rouge and Shreveport, Louisiana, in delivering reentry services for probationers and parolees released to community supervision.

The addition of these new centers, and inclusion of more treatment and training components to the programs, coincides with Louisiana’s efforts to lessen prison and jail crowding and boost reentry services that reduce recidivism.

Judges and parole and probation agents can assign offenders to the day reporting centers, which can serve up to 50 individuals at a time. The centers offer evidence-based programming designed to rehabilitate participants and successfully prepare them for life after incarceration while maintaining public safety.

Participants stay in the program for up to 90 days, completing three targeted phases plus aftercare. Participants are held accountable with frequent check-ins, drug and alcohol testing, and case management while receiving the ongoing treatment needed to help break cycles of criminal behavior. Classes include:

GEO Reentry’s intensive approach helps reduce recidivism when compared to traditional reentry programs; targets employment or full-time school enrollment upon program completion; generates significant savings for taxpayers through lower incarceration costs; and alters participants’ attitudes and behaviors through treatment and training. With nearly half of the 9,000 probation and parole revocations in Louisiana due to technical violations, the day reporting centers also provide an alternative to incarceration and revocations.

Each of the GEO Reentry day reporting centers will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

GEO Reentry has provided correctional and reentry centers in the state of Louisiana since 2007, opening its first day reporting center in Louisiana in 2009. In addition to five day reporting centers, GEO Reentry operates three correctional facilities in the state.
