THIBODAUX, La., – As part of the U.S. Justice Department’s National Reentry Month, the Thibodaux Day Reporting Center will host a special event that will encourage community members and business leaders to mentor a DRC program participant. The Mentor-A-Participant Event will be held on Monday, April 22, at the DRC, located at 1000 Plantation Road, Suite E.
The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections opened the DRC in December to enhance reentry services for probationers and parolees released to community supervision.
This multi-purpose mentoring event aims to bring members of the greater community into the program and spend personal time in an informal yet business-like setting with program participants. The DRC participants will have an opportunity to network, showcase their progress and community integration readiness as well as identify potential employers during the event.
“We consider this a win-win for participants and community members,” said Kaylarge Eloi, Program Manager. “There are community members with so much knowledge and expertise out there, and our participants are doing the hard work and learning how to reconnect with their communities, hold down jobs, and stay crime-free.”
Mentors are being asked to make a $25 donation to mentor a participant, with proceeds being pledged to the Autism Society, which is also conducting a national awareness campaign.

About the Thibodaux DRC
The Thibodaux DRC is operated by GEO Reentry Services. Participants stay in the program for up to 90 days, completing three targeted phases plus aftercare. Participants are held accountable with frequent check-ins, drug and alcohol testing, and case management while receiving the ongoing treatment needed to help break cycles of criminal behavior. Classes include:
- Cognitive behavioral therapy
- Employment readiness and career development
- Community Connections, including links to local service providers
- Adult Basic Education and GED-related services
- Anger management
- Life skills and parenting classes
- Drug and alcohol classes
The Thibodaux DRC is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
